Day 1 : UK - Lyon (France)
Fly from Manchester and embark Amacello. Welcome Dinner on board this evening. (D)
Day 2 : Lyon
Visit Fourviere Hill before joining a panoramic tour of Lyon with highlights including Place Bellecour with its equestrian statue of Louis XIV, Place des Terreaux with Bartholdi’s Fountain, and the Town Hall. Later, enjoy a guided walking tour around Old Lyon. Reminder of the afternoon is at leisure, and there is the option to join a guided bike ride through the city.
Day 3 : Collonges - Vienne
This morning, enjoy a tour through the Beaujolais wine region, also known as the Pays d'Or. Indulge in a wine tasting and learn more about the history of the region's wine production. Return to the ship in the afternoon and continue cruising towards Vienne. Free evening to explore on your own. (B,L,D)
Day 4 : Vienne - Tournon
Situated between the wine regions of Burgundy and Beaujolais, Vienne's Roman past can be seen in its magnificently preserved ruins. This morning, take a walking tour and see an ancient Roman temple, the ruins of a Roman theatre and the medieval Abbey Church of St. Pierre which is now an Archaeological Museum. Alternatively join the guided bike ride along the ViaRhona bike route or the guided hike up to the Mount Pipet Monastery. Your ship departs at midday for Tournon. (B,L,D)
Day 5 : Tournon
Today you can enjoy an indulgent chocolate and red wine pairing at Le Chateau de Tournon, or a hike followed by a wine tasting. Or perhaps discover the magnificent scenery of the Gorge du Doux on an exciting train car ride. (B,L,D)
Day 6 : Avignon
This morning there are three excursions to choose from. Enjoy a guided walking tour in Avignon including the Papal Palace and the well-preserved medieval walls that surround the historic centre of the town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perhaps take the excursion to the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct that is a masterpiece of engineering, or indulge in a Tastes of Provence. Later, there is an excursion to the hilltop village of Grignan for a visit to a truffle farm (forward itinerary only). (B,L,D)
Day 7 : Avignon - Arles
Arrive in Arles this morning and board a motor coach for an excursion to the village of Les Baux de Provence where the castle has a fascinating exhibit of medieval weapons, then visit an olive farm. Alternatively, take the Artist Experience tour to the Carrieres de Lumieres, a stone quarry that projects European artwork on its walls, and Saint Paul de Mausole Asylum where Van Gogh once lived and worked. Late afternoon choose between a city tour of Arles or a guided bike ride (forward itinerary only) through the Roman ruins. You may instead join a special walking tour which visits the Vincent Van Gogh Foundation (forward itinerary only). The ship moors overnight in Arles. (B,L,D)
Day 8 : Arles - UK
Disembark AmaCello in Arles and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Leeds-Bradford. (B)
