2018 Itinerary

Day 1 : UK - Lyon (France)

Fly from Manchester to Lyon where a representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your ship. This evening there is a welcome reception and dinner on board. (D)

Day 2 : Lyon

Lyon is France's second largest city. The guided tour begins with a drive to the magnificent Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere then a walk through the cobbled streets of the old town passes the Roman amphitheatre. (B,L,D)

Day 3 : Chalon-sur-Saone - Beaune

Chalon-sur-Saone is at the heart of the Burgundy wine region. Travel to the 15th-century Hospices de Beaune in the morning then enjoy lunch on board whilst cruising toward Macon, or join a bike ride from Tournus to Macon. (B,L,D)

Day 4 : Macon

Sail along the picturesque Soane river to Macon, the gateway to the Beaujolais vineyards, and see the half-timbered houses and Souflot Chapel. Perhaps sample some local wines before exploring Macon at your leisure. There is the option to join an excursion to the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny (extra cost and 2017 only). (B,L,D)

Day 5 : Tournon

Enjoy a walking tour of Tournon accompanied by a local guide and see the 16th-century castle and numerous Roman ruins. Why not join the bicycle tour to Glun today, or a guided vineyards hike. EmeraldPLUS: Onboard regional wine tasting. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Avignon

The fortified town of Avignon was once the residence of the Popes and played an important role in the French Revolution. Join the guided tour through the historic centre then enjoy free time to explore the town at leisure. There will be a yoga/Pilates lesson on board. EmeraldPLUS: Tonight there is a special Provencal dinner on board, created by a local chef. (B,L,D)

Day 7 : Avignon - Arles

Explore Arles, the capital of Provence, on a guided walking tour of the city's highlights, including the 2,000-year-old Roman Ampitheatre. Spend the rest of the day exploring at leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 8 : Arles - UK

Disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Manchester. (B)

In the heart of Burgundy's wine region is picturesque Chalon-sur-Saone. From here, head to Beaune for a visit to the 15th-century Hospices de Beaune. Admire the beautiful multicoloured roofs on this former hospital. (B,L,D)

Day 3 : Lyon

The former Roman capital of Lyon is a gastronomic city. Join a guided tour, which begins with a drive to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere before travelling to the Roman ampitheatre and the beautiful old town. Alternatively, enjoy a guided bike tour. An optional visit to Perouges is available. (B,L,D)

Day 4 : Tournon

Join a walking tour of historic Tournon, nestled in a valley and overlooked by a 16th-century castle. Choose from two EmeraldActive excursions - a guided bike tour to Glun and a guided hike through stunning vineyards. Onboard there is a special wine tasting. (B,L,D)

Day 5 : Viviers

Viviers is home to one of France's oldest cathedrals. A guided tour takes in the impressive architecture that this town has to offer. Back on board, there is a cheese and olive tasting. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Avignon

Avignon is home to the majestic Papal Palace. Join the guided walk through the historic centre which overlooks the impressive Pont d'Avignon. If you are feeling more active, why not enjoy a yoga class on board or take the guided hike around Avignon. There is a special Provencal dinner this evening, hosted by chef Fabien Morreale. In addition, an optional tour to Pont du Gard is available. (B,L,D)

Day 7 : Arles

Today there is a walking tour which showcases the Roman ampitheatre, built to hold 20,000 spectators. Spend the remainder of the day exploring at leisure. There is an optional tour of Les Baux. (B,L,D)

Day 8 : Arles - UK

Disembark after breakfast and head to the airport for your return flight to Manchester. (B)
