Amsterdam to Basel Itinerary

Day 1 : UK - Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Fly from Leeds-Bradford or Manchester to Amsterdam and then transfer to your ship. After boarding, spend time at leisure. Remain moored overnight. (D)

Day 2 : Kinderdijk

Cruise to UNESCO-listed Kinderdijk and enjoy a tour of the windmills and other flood management devices. You can also explore an actual working windmill, viewing its mechanisms and living quarters. Return to the ship for lunch and an afternoon of Dutch diversions, including cheeses and jenever, a distilled juniper liquor. Cruise through the night. (B,L,D)

Day 3 : Cologne (Germany)

Disembark in Cologne for a walking tour which includes a visit to Cologne’s Dom, a spectacular Gothic cathedral which soars above the city. Please note: A guided visit inside may not always be possible but you can explore on your own. Later, enjoy time at leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 4 : Koblenz - Rudesheim

Today, you can enjoy a tour of 700-year-old Marksburg Castle, before returning to the ship for lunch. Admire stunning scenery as you cruise a picturesque stretch of the Rhine, before arriving in Rüdesheim. Enjoy time at leisure in the pedestrian-only Drosselgasse and try the local wine at one of the restaurants or wine bars. Dine on board the ship or perhaps stay in town. (B,L,D)

Day 5 : Heidelberg - Speyer

Picturesque Heidelberg is home to Germany's oldest university. Enjoy a visit to the magnificent ruins of Heidelberg Castle where you soak up the views of the Neckar River Valley. Later, join a guided walking tour through the Old Town to Heidelberg's renowned gates. This afternoon, travel to Speyer which has a UNESCO-listed cathedral. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Strasbourg (France)

Dock in Kehl and travel to Strasbourg for a guided tour. Highlights include the European Parliament and a tour of the magnificent cathedral. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring this fascinating city. (B,L,D)

Day 7 : Breisach (Germany)

Arrive in Breisach this morning, known as the gateway to the Black Forest. Travel through the area’s breathtaking mountain landscape and rolling meadows, before visiting a local workshop and watching a cuckoo clock-making demonstration. Later, return to Breisach. Perhaps join the optional excursion to Colmar. Dine aboard the ship while you cruise on to Basel. (B,L,D)

Day 8 : Basel (Switzerland) - UK

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to Basel Airport for your return flight to Leeds-Bradford or Manchester. (B)

Basel to Amsterdam Itinerary

Day 1 : UK - Basel (Switzerland)

Fly from Leeds-Bradford or Manchester to Switzerland and embark your ship. After boarding, spend time at leisure. Remain moored overnight. (D)

Day 2 : Breisach (Germany)

Breisach is the gateway to the Black Forest, and today you can visit a local workshop for a cuckoo clock-making demonstration plus learn how the famous Black Forest Cake is made. Return to the ship for lunch. Dine on board the ship this evening and cruise through the night. (B,L,D)

Day 3 : Strasbourg (France)

See the magnificent European Parliament and striking cathedral on a guided tour of Strasbourg this morning. Later, spend time at leisure further exploring the city. (B,L,D)

Day 4 : Heidelberg (Germany) - Rudesheim

This morning, join a guided tour of Heidelberg which is home to Germany's oldest university. Discover the impressive ruins of Heidelberg Castle and enjoy panoramic views of the Neckar River Valley. Later, take a walking tour through the Old Town to the impressive gates. Return to the ship for lunch and cruise to Rudesheim. Enjoy time at leisure in the Drosselgasse with its many restaurants. Day 5 : Koblenz

Enjoy scenic cruising before arriving in Koblenz this afternoon. Travel to the 700-year-old Marksburg Castle for a guided tour. The castle was built with strong fortifications so was never besieged by enemies. Admire the sweeping views of Braubach, the Rhine and surrounding countryside. Later, enjoy lunch on board and spend time at leisure. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Cologne

This morning's guided tour of Cologne includes a visit to the Dom, the UNESCO-listed Gothic cathedral. Later, spend time at leisure in this fascinating city. Lunch and dinner are served on board and the ship departs at midnight. (B,L,D)

Day 7 : Kinderdijk (Netherlands)

Enjoy a morning of Dutch diversions, including cheeses and jenever, a distilled juniper liquor. There will also be a presentation on the Dutch Golden Age. Later, the ship arrives in UNESCO-listed Kinderdijk. Enjoy a tour of the windmills and flood management devices plus go inside a working windmill to see the mechanisms and living quarters. Back on board, cruise to Amsterdam, arriving around midnight. (B,L,D)

Day 8 : Amsterdam - UK

Disembark in Amsterdam and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Leeds-Bradford or Manchester.
