Discover the marble Victoria Memorial, the majestic St Paul's Cathedral and Mother Tersea's house during your time in Kolkata, before flying to Jorhat and transferring to Neamati Ghat to begin your once-in-a-lifetime river cruise.

Enjoy a traditional Assamese lunch at a tea estate near Sibsagar, watch an exciting cultural performance by Satriya dancers on Majuli, the largest river island in the world, and experience a thrilling river safari in Kaziranga.

Meet local weavers in tranquil Bishwanath Ghat, take part in a special elephant safari in the breathtaking Kaziranga National Park and keep an eye out for the golden langurs on Peacock Island.

Day 1 : UK - Kolkata (India)

Fly from Manchester Airport to Kolkata.

Day 2 : Kolkata

On arrival in Kolkata, you will be met and transferred to the hotel for a 2-night stay. (B)

Day 3 : Kolkata

Enjoy a guided city tour with highlights including the marble Victoria Memorial (closed on Mondays), the stunning St Paul's Cathedral and Mother Teresa's house which is known as Nirmal Hriday. You'll also head to nearby Shisbu Bhawan, a centre offering shelter to abandoned children. (B)

Day 4 : Jorhat

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Jorhat via Guwahati. On arrival, you will be transferred to Neamati Ghat to board your purpose-built ship, Mahabaahu. Welcome dinner and educational talk about Sibsagar and the people of Assam. (B,L,D)

Day 5 : Sibsagar

After breakfast, prepare for a full day exploring the ancient city of Sibsagar. Discover the impressive Shiva Dol, arguably the tallest Shiva temple in the country. You'll also see the Rang Ghar, an important ampitheatre. Later, head to a tea estate for a traditional Assamese lunch. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Majuli Island

Perhaps enjoy yoga or a walk along the swamps before cruising to Majuli Island during breakfast. On arrival, you'll enjoy a talk about the island and a performance by Satriya dancers and singers, before driving to Kamlabari Satra to watch Vaishnavite dancing. Later, sail towards the closest Mishing Village to meet the locals. The ship then continues towards Dhansiri Mukh and there'll be a talk onboard about Assam. This evening will be spent on a deserted island under the stars. (B,L,D)

Day 7 : Dhansiri Boat Safari

Cruise towards the Eastern Range of Kaziranga for a thrilling river safari. There'll be a talk onboard about the Brahmaputra. As you explore in tender boats, keep an eye out for the varied wildlife. Back on board, there is a cooking demonstration and a talk about tea, silk and jute in Assam. Tonight, enjoy a bonfire onshore. (B,L,D)

Day 8 : Bishwanath Ghat - Silghat

Enjoy a talk on Kaziranga and India's wildlife before travelling to Bishwanath Ghat where you'll take a walk through the village and meet the local weavers. Admire the scenery as you cruise to Silghat. Disembark and head to the Kaliabore Tea Estate to learn about the process of making Assam Tea. On your return to the ship, you'll call at a Jute Mill. Cultural evening on board. (B,L,D)

Day 9 : Kaziranga National Park

Travel to Kaziranga National Park which is home to the one-horned rhino as well as elephants, tiger and buffalo. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime elephant safari and breakfast in the park. Continue to Bagori where you'll board a jeep and continue exploring. This evening there is an onboard talk on Kamakhya, Peacock island and the Occult, plus a special Assamese dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 10 : Peacock Island

Visit an island occupied by a Muslim community who practice extensive farming. Later, cruise towards Peacock Island which is home to golden langurs, and on to Pandu Port to anchor. Farewell Dinner onboard. (B,L,D)

Day 11 : Guwahati - UK

After breakfast, disembark and travel to the magnificent Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill which is devoted to the goddess of desire. It is an important pilgrimage site. Later, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Manchester. (B,L)

Day 12 : UK

Arrive back at Manchester Airport.
